Duas for Umrah

Umrah, a sacred pilgrimage to Makkah, is a spiritually uplifting journey that strengthens a Muslim’s connection with Allah ﷻ. Every step of the Umrah—from donning the Ihram to performing Tawaf and Sa’i—is an opportunity to earn immense reward. Central to this journey are the Duas for Umrah, which provide a means to invoke divine mercy, seek forgiveness, and reflect on one’s spiritual state.

Whether you are performing Umrah for the first time or have done it before, knowing and understanding the proper Umrah Duas in Arabic with English translation helps deepen the experience.

Before Departure: Duas to Recite Before Leaving for Umrah

Before leaving your home for this sacred journey, it’s essential to begin with intentions and prayers that reflect your spiritual purpose.

1. Niyyah (Intention) for Umrah

Allahumma inni ureedul ‘umrata fayassirha li wa taqabbalha minni.
Translation: O Allah! I intend to perform Umrah, so make it easy for me and accept it from me.

2. Dua for Safe Travel

Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wama kunna lahu muqrineen.
Translation: Glory be to Him who has subjected this to us, and we could never have done it on our own.

Ihram and Miqat Duas

At the Miqat, pilgrims must enter into the state of Ihram. Begin with the intention (Niyyah) and then recite the Talbiyah:

3. Talbiyah (Dua for Ihram)

Labbayka Allahumma labbayk. Labbayka la sharika laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni’mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak.
Translation: Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner. Here I am. Indeed, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.

Duas During Tawaf (Circumambulation)

There is no specific fixed dua for each round of Tawaf, but one may recite any dhikr (remembrance), Quranic verses, or personal duas. However, some common and powerful duas include:

4. Dua Between the Black Stone and Yemeni Corner

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina ‘adhaban-nar.
Translation: Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

5. General Dhikr for Tawaf

  • SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)
  • Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah)
  • La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
  • Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)

Duas at Maqam Ibrahim

After completing Tawaf, offer two rak’ahs of prayer near Maqam Ibrahim. After salah, it is good to say:

وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَّقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى
Wattakhidhu min Maqami Ibrahima musalla.
Translation: And take the station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer.

Duas During Sa’i (Between Safa and Marwah)

Begin with climbing Safa and reciting:

6. Dua at Safa and Marwah

Innas-safa wal-marwata min sha’a’irillah.
Translation: Verily, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah.

Repeat the Talbiyah and recite any duas from your heart. Some pilgrims also read:

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, walillahil-hamd.

Duas for Hair Cutting (Halq or Taqsir)

Once Sa’i is completed, men either shave (Halq) or trim (Taqsir) their hair, and women cut a small portion. Recite:

7. Dua After Hair Cutting

Allahumma ighfir li wa liman halaqa ra’sahu.
Translation: O Allah, forgive me and those who shaved their heads.

Optional Duas for Umrah

While the above Duas are essential, there are other beautiful supplications you can make during Umrah, such as:

8. Dua for Forgiveness

Allahumma ighfir li dhunubi kullaha diqqaha wa jillaha, wa awwalaha wa akhiraha, wa ‘alaniyataha wa sirraha.
Translation: O Allah, forgive all my sins – the small and the great, the first and the last, those that are apparent and those that are hidden.
