Central Theme of Surah Al-Waqi’ah

The Surah revolves around one major idea:

Humanity will be divided into three categories on the Day of Judgment.

This classification is the core structure of the Surah.

Three Groups of Humanity

1. The Foremost (As-Sabiqun)

These are the highest group:

  • Close to Allah
  • Leaders in faith
  • First in righteousness

They will be rewarded with:

  • Gardens of bliss
  • Honor and closeness to Allah
  • Eternal peace

They are described as:

A large group from earlier generations and a smaller group from later ones.

2. The People of the Right (Ashab al-Yameen)

These are the righteous believers:

  • Given their book in the right hand
  • Enter Paradise
  • Enjoy peace and comfort

Their rewards include:

  • Fruits and blessings
  • No fear or sadness
  • Peaceful life in Paradise

3. The People of the Left (Ashab al-Shimal)

These are the disbelievers and sinners:

  • Given their book in the left hand
  • Face punishment in Hell
  • Experience regret and suffering

They will say:

“Would that we were never created.”

Signs of Allah in Creation

The Surah repeatedly calls attention to:

  • Human creation from sperm
  • Plants and crops
  • Water and rain
  • Fire as a blessing

These signs prove:

Resurrection is not difficult for the One who created everything.

The Reality of Death

Allah reminds:

  • Death is certain
  • No one can escape it
  • It is the beginning of another reality

The Surah removes illusion:

Life is temporary; the Hereafter is permanent.

Rizq (Sustenance) Comes from Allah

A powerful message in the Surah is:

  • Allah is the Provider
  • Humans do not control wealth
